Broadcast Time: 4:50am Date: Saturday July 15th, 2023
A 16-year-old driver has been charged with Careless Driving and Class G1 licence holder unaccompanied by qualified driver – both charges pursuant to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario. This occurred after emergency responders arrived at the area of St. Clair Parkway near Marlborough Lane on the evening of Friday, July 14th 2023 when it was reported that a truck with two persons aboard was sinking in the St. Clair River.
Fortunately both teenagers made it to shore safely after being unable to open any doors, as they were able to break a window to make their escape from the submerging truck.
Sarnia Fire Rescue and the Point Edward Fire Department assisted a local tow company and the truck was removed from the River. A portion of the Parkway was closed briefly, but has since been re-opened.
In addition to a range of monetary fines, a conviction for either Careless Driving or Class G1 licence holder unaccompanied by qualified driver will result in a 30-day licence suspension for the G1 driver.
No injuries were reported by the involved persons.
The Sarnia Police Service continues to investigate the matter and asks that anyone with information contact Constable Rich Scott at 519-344-8861 ext. 6217 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 if you wish to remain anonymous.
