On July 26th 2023 the victim, an adult male Sarnia resident, was fishing in the area of Ferry Dock Hill. He was approached by an unknown male suspect, who attempted to initiate an unsolicited conversation. When the victim would not engage with him, the suspect suddenly produced a handgun and pointed it directly at the victim’s head. A short exchange of words took place and the suspect fled the area. The victim did not receive any physical injuries during the interaction.
Police were called and initiated an investigation.
The SPS Street Crime Unit (SCU) took carriage of the investigation. The SCU was able to quickly identify and arrest the suspect. Upon arrest it was revealed that the suspect was already subject to a release order for multiple previous charges, including conditions to not possess any firearms (or imitations of firearms).
Edward Lee Oliver (39 years) of Sarnia has been charged with the following Criminal Code offences:
1. Fail to comply with release order
2. Pointing a Firearm
3. Possession of weapon for a dangerous purpose
4. Carrying a concealed weapon
5. Assault with a weapon
Mr. Oliver was held in custody for a bail hearing and remanded into custody.
