HAMMER-WIELDING SUSPECT ARRESTED FOR PROPERTY DAMAGE

On Friday, January 26, 2024, the Sarnia Police Service responded to a call of a male wielding a hammer in the area of 600 Murphy Road, Sarnia. While enroute, responding officers received additional information that the male had smashed out the glass of a bus shelter. There were approximately 30 citizens waiting at the bus terminal as this incident occurred. The male was quickly located and immediately taken into custody without incident. No physical injuries were reported by any member of the public.

As the investigation continued, officers were informed of another incident that occurred earlier, where the suspect followed an older adult to her vehicle. Without provocation, he used the hammer to repeatedly strike her vehicle which was in a parking lot on Afton Drive, Sarnia. The victim, out of fear, drove her vehicle out of the parking lot while the suspect gave chase on foot, waving the hammer in the air. The victim in this incident was not physically injured however the vehicle had extensive damage.

Jesse NAP (29) of Sarnia has been charged with the following:

  • 2 counts of Mischief not exceeding $5000
  • 1 count of Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
  • 1 count of Failure to Comply with Release Order
  • 3 counts of Failure to Comply with Probation

NAP appeared before a Justice of the Peace by video on January 27, 204 for a bail hearing. He was remanded into custody at the Sarnia Jail and will next appear in Court on January 30, 2024.
