On February 3, 2024, at approximately 1:30 pm, the Sarnia Police Service, as well as Sarnia Fire Rescue and Lambton EMS, responded to the intersection of Modeland and Blackwell Roads for a single vehicle collision.
The vehicle was northbound on Modeland Road and began to make the right turn onto Blackwell Road. As the vehicle slowly rounded the corner, it failed to complete the turn, crossing over both lanes of traffic and leaving the road, coming to a rest in the ditch.
Emergency first aid was provided to the 72 year-old male driver, who was the lone occupant. Although there was minimal damage to the vehicle, the driver was taken to Bluewater Health in critical condition.
The Sarnia Police Traffic Unit took over the investigation to determine the cause of the collision. They have concluded their preliminary work at the scene and the intersection, which has been closed, has been reopened to traffic. The investigation will continue but based on information received thus far, this collision is consistent with a medical episode and no further information is likely to be released.
