A local Sarnia man who was aware that there was a Warrant for his arrest locked himself inside a room at a residence in the area of Campbell Street and Whitmore Avenue in Sarnia when Police arrived there in the early evening of Saturday July 15, 2023. During the standoff that lasted about an hour and fifteen minutes, the Sarnia man told officers at the scene that he had firearms and other weapons in his possession however he did not make any direct threats.
The area was contained by officers from the Sarnia Police Service and portions of the streets were closed to ensure the safety of the public.
After ongoing negotiations during the standoff, the Sarnia man peacefully surrendered to officers and was taken into custody at 7:02pm.
No firearms were located inside the residence and no new charges have been laid. The streets in the area have since been re-opened.
Joshua Erdodi, age 36 of Sarnia was arrested on a Surety Warrant – Order of Committal and brought to a corrections facility.
A surety is someone who agrees to certain obligations to ensure an accused person released on bail abides by their bail conditions. When a surety wishes to be relieved of their duties, they may apply to the Court to have their duties dismissed. When this occurs, a Justice issues an Order for Committal, which is a Surety Warrant that orders police officers to arrest the accused person to deliver them to a corrections facility for imprisonment.
