A 32-year-old female from Sarnia, along with a 51-year-old male from Corunna as well as a 38-year-old male from London were arrested and charged with Impaired Driving over the holiday weekend.
On October 6, 2023, at approximately 8:15pm, the accused in the first case was allegedly driving northbound on Willow Glen Court at a high rate of speed when she failed to negotiate the curve and struck a parked vehicle on the north side of this same street. This caused extensive damage to both vehicles including the loss of the front bumper bearing a licence plate associated to the driver’s home address. After deciding to flee the scene, the driver was eventually located at her residence by police with the damaged vehicle sitting in the driveway. The responding officer subsequently detected a strong odour of alcohol on the driver’s breath, and as a result, the accused was arrested for Impaired Operation of a Conveyance. Further breath tests showed the driver’s blood-alcohol concentration to be more than 2.5 times the legal limit.
In addition to being charged with Failure to Stop After Accident, 32-year-old Chloe Victoria James of Sarnia, Ontario was also charged with Operation of a Conveyance with 80mg of Alcohol or More in 100ml of Blood and later released on an Undertaking Given to a Peace Officer.
On October 7, 2023, just prior to 3:30am, an officer on Uniform Patrol stopped a vehicle travelling southbound on Indian Road near Confederation Street after a random query showed an unconfirmed insurance status. After speaking with this driver, the officer suspected that the male had consumed alcohol and therefore issued a roadside breath demand which resulted in a ‘fail’ reading. The driver was arrested accordingly and additional breath tests taken at Sarnia Police Headquarters showed his blood-alcohol concentration to be nearly twice the legal limit.
51-year-old David Leighton Snowden of Corunna, Ontario was charged with Operation of a Conveyance with 80mg of Alcohol or More in 100ml of Blood and later released on an Appearance Notice.
In the final case, on October 8, 2023, at approximately 3:45pm, police were notified of an impaired driver in the company of his 3 young children in the area of Coronation Lane and Modeland Road. The vehicle was located by the responding officer parked on Coronation facing west in the eastbound lane. The vehicle was running at this time with the accused seated in the driver’s seat and his kids standing outside of the vehicle. The accused was arrested for Impaired Operation of a Conveyance after the officer observed his demeanor and detected a strong odour of alcohol on his breath. Subsequent breath tests showed the driver’s blood-alcohol concentration to be more than 3.5 times the legal limit.
38-year-old Alexander Vanpraet of London, Ontario was also charged with Operation of a Conveyance with 80mg of Alcohol or More in 100ml of Blood and later released on an Appearance Notice. The children were placed in the safe care of their mother.
