Victim Services of Sarnia – Lambton Inc. (Victim Services) is a charitable, community-based organization in Sarnia and Lambton County that provides 24 hour emergency service to victims of crime and tragic circumstance using trained volunteers. The Victim Services program: Victim Crisis Assistance Ontario is funded by The Ministry of the Attorney General. Volunteer Crisis Responders provide emotional and practical assistance to victims referred primarily through area police and emergency services.  The individual must consent to the services and all information is confidential.

Victim Services is the only community service which can assist all victims of crime and tragic circumstances 24 hours a day.

When the Police, Fire and Emergency Medical Services arrive at the scene of a crime, they ask the victims if they could use Victim Services assistance.  If the victim agrees, Victim Services is then dispatched to attend the crime scene for the victim(s) and their families.

Situations in which Victim Services of Sarnia-Lambton Inc. is able to assist include (but are not limited to) domestic violence, elder abuse, assault, sexual assault, motor vehicle accidents and fatalities, robbery, sudden death, suicide, threats or criminal harassment, fire, homicide, attempted murder, missing persons.

Referrals for service are also accepted from other social service agencies (including hospitals, schools, churches); fire departments, and self-referrals initiated by the individuals themselves. Situations requiring immediate assistance after normal business hours are only accepted from police, fire departments, and hospitals.

Victim Services relies on volunteers from Sarnia Lambton who can offer understanding and support to victims. Ideal volunteers are dependable adults who can respond without judgement, have great listening and communication skills, and can respect confidentiality.

The rewards for volunteering are numerous and include:

  • assisting people immediately, you know that you have helped lessen their pain and trauma
  • you are fulfilling a unique and very important role in your community
