Sarnia Police Service Board Announcement-Deputy Chief of Police

After an extensive search process, the Sarnia Police Services Board is pleased to announce the selection of Inspector Ron Hansen (Halton Regional Police Service) as Deputy Chief designate for the Sarnia Police Service.

Inspector Hansen began his career with the Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) in 1995. During those 29 years with the HRPS, he gained experience in a broad range of operational roles including Criminal Investigations, Intelligence, Strategic Management and Frontline Operations at rank levels spanning from Constable to Inspector. He was also a member of the O.P.P. led Provincial Weapons Enforcement Unit (PWEU) where he was involved with firearms trafficking investigations.

Inspector Hansen has spent much of his career involved in Criminal Investigations and Intelligence, having been involved in many complex cases including ones involving organized crime and homicides. He also served as vice-chair for the Criminal Intelligence Service Ontario (CISO) Operating Body Executive for the past two years.

Inspector Hansen’s most recent command position was as the Inspector of the Strategic Management Office at the HRPS, where he led several specialist units, including Policy & Forms, Planning & Emergency Management, Crime Analysis, Police Analytics, Program Support, and Enterprise Project Management. His leadership in these areas has been instrumental in driving significant organizational improvements and advancements in policing operations.

He has received training in Police Leadership from Dalhousie University and has completed many specialized training courses throughout his career. His extensive education and continuous professional development reflect his dedication to advancing his knowledge and skills in law enforcement.

Deputy Chief Hansen will commence his duties with the Sarnia Police Service effective August 8, 2024, with a swearing-in ceremony to be held at a later date.
