On Friday, March 29th 2024 at 2:50 pm, Sarnia police responded to multiple 911 calls requesting an ambulance for an injured male.
Officers arrived at Kathleen Street / Walnut Street to find a 28-year-old male with obvious facial injuries. Information was quickly obtained that he had been involved in a physical fight with another male inside a Kathleen Street residence over illegal drugs. A female present at that location then joined the fray, striking the victim in the face multiple times with a claw hammer.
A female party was located nearby and placed under arrest for assault with a weapon. The victim sustained a large gash on his upper lip and was transported to Bluewater Health for treatment. 25 stitches were necessary to close the wound, but he is expected to recover. The other involved male has been identified and the SPS Criminal Investigations Division is continuing this investigation.
As a result of this incident, April RATHMELL 43 years of age was held for bail on the following charges:
- CC 267 –Assault with a Weapon
- CC 267(b) – Assault Causing Bodily Harm
