Broadcast Time:    6:52 a.m.            Date: March 3, 2024

On the 2nd of March 2024 at approx. 11pm, the Sarnia Police were called to two back to back motor vehicle collisions. Both incidents occurred within a half hour of each other and in both cases, the drivers were impaired by alcohol. Fortunately no other vehicles were involved and no injuries were reported.

Collison # 1

A female driver left a driveway in the 700 block of Indian Road to travel Southbound. Witnesses report that she then accelerated to a high rate of speed and lost control of her vehicle when attempting to turn. She lost control of the vehicle and struck a light standard.

Once the officers arrived, an odour of alcohol could be detected from the operator. She was arrested for operation of a vehicle while impaired by alcohol. Once back at the Sarnia Police Service, the accused party provided two samples of breath into an approved instrument which resulted in a reading of just under three times the legal limit of alcohol permitted to operate a motor vehicle. A 33 year old Sarnia woman has been charged with Impaired Driving and Over .08.

Collision # 2

A male driver operating his motor vehicle northbound on Murphy Road crossed over the median, crashed through a chain link fence, and collided with a parked vehicle in a private drive on the southwest side of the intersection at Murphy Road and Wellington Street.

Upon arrival, the investigating officer detected an odour of alcohol from the driver, observed blood shot eyes, and noticed that he was unsteady on his feet. The driver of the motor vehicle was arrested for operating a vehicle while impaired by alcohol. The male provided two suitable samples of breath into an approved instrument and registered readings in between two and a half times and three times the legal limit of alcohol permitted to operate a motor vehicle. A 55 year old Sarnia man has been charged with Impaired Driving and Over .08.
