On Feb 18, 2024, the Sarnia Police Service responded to an incident involving an off duty Sarnia police officer at a private residence. As a result of this investigation, Constable Tim VanCowenberg has been charged with assault, forcible confinement, and mischief contrary to the Criminal Code. This incident is now before the courts.
Pursuant to the provisions of the Police Services Act (PSA), SPS Chief Derek Davis has directed a concurrent internal investigation be initiated into these matters.
Cst. VanCowenberg has been re-assigned to non-operational duties pending the outcome of these proceedings.
