Talfourd Street Unprovoked Assault – Male Youth Arrested

On Sunday March 10th, 2024 at 2:30pm police were called to a report of an unprovoked assault. Investigation revealed that a 66 year old Sarnia man was walking down the sidewalk, on Talfourd Street near Queen Street. An unknown suspect attacked the man from behind, striking him in the face multiple times causing bruising, abrasions and swelling. Immediately following the attack, the suspect fled on foot.

Sarnia Police officers canvassed the area and located security footage capturing this assault. This was released to the public generating multiple leads. Members of the Criminal Investigations Division (CID) followed up those tips and identified a 16 year old male youth as the person responsible. On March 12, CID officers executed a search warrant on the suspect’s residence, seizing evidence of the original assault, and locating the suspect inside. Upon police presence being known, the youth attempted to flee and hide within the house. He fought with police, striking one officer in the mouth (no injury) before being taking into custody.

As a result of this investigation, a 16 year old Sarnia youth has been charged with:

  • Assault
  • Assault Police Officer
  • Resisting Arrest

As another outcome of this investigation, this same youth was identified as being responsible for a Break and Enter to a Cathcart Residence in February 2024. He faces an additional charge of:

  • Break, Enter and Theft
  • Trespass By Night

Pursuant to the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the name of this young person is not being released. With the new knowledge that these crimes were committed by a young person, the original Sarnia Police posts and media releases have been removed. Members of the public are also asked to remove posts that depict this young person.
