Warning Regarding Ongoing Scam – Male Wanted

Broadcast Time:        9:00am                        Date: March 20, 2024

The Sarnia Police Service wishes to update the public on an ongoing scam within the City of Sarnia.

In this scam, a male approaches strangers. He indicates his wife has had some sort of alarming medical crisis, is currently in hospital, and that he needs gas money to get there. These emotional and high-pressure approaches toward citizens have occurred in public spaces and by knocking on the doors of private residences. They can be very persistent in nature and coercive in compelling people to give him money. His claim of a wife in the hospital and the pretense of needing gas money is completely false.

The Sarnia Police Service has requested an arrest warrant for Bernd Adamek (65 years of age) in relation to these offences. Adamek is described as being 6 feet tall and weighing 225 pound. He has white hair and is usually operating a silver Nissan Murano.

Bernd Adamek is currently wanted for the following offences:

  • Fraud under $5000 – CC 380 (1)(b) – (3 Counts)
  • Failure to Comply with a Probation Order – CC 733.1(1) – (4 Counts)

The person responsible has been defrauding local residents for approximately one year. The Sarnia Police Service has previously laid charges in relation to similar fraudulent activities.

The Sarnia Police Service is asking that if you have been approached in this fashion, that you make a report. Online reporting is available via www.SarniaPolice.ca.

If you have any information in regards to the whereabouts of Bernd Adamek, please contact the Sarnia Police Service at (519)344-8861 extension “0” or contact Crime Stoppers at 519-332-TIPS (8477) or via www.p3tips.com
