**UPDATE** March 22, 2024

On March 22nd, 2024, the Sarnia Police Service arrested Bernd ADAMEK (65 years of age) for an ongoing fraudulent scam within the City of Sarnia.

In this scam, ADAMEK approaches strangers. He indicates his wife has had some sort of alarming medical crisis, is currently in hospital, and he needs gas money to get there. These emotional and high-pressure approaches toward citizens have occurred in public spaces and by knocking on the doors of private residences. He can be very persistent in nature and coercive in compelling people to give money. His claim of a wife in the hospital and the pretense of needing gas money is completely false.

On March 20, at 8:17pm officers of the Sarnia Police Service attempted to stop Bernd ADAMEK on Finch Drive north of Wellington Street in the City of Sarnia. The officers activated their emergency lights to stop the vehicle. ADAMEK refused to stop, accelerating away at speeds above 120kph. Police discontinued the pursuit due to safety concerns for the public.

On March 21 at 10pm, officers of the Sarnia Police Service attempted to stop Bernd ADAMEK on Indian Road south of Talfourd Road in the City of Sarnia. Upon seeing their cruiser emergency lights, ADAMEK accelerated away, blowing through a stop sign with no regard for the safety of other vehicles or pedestrians. Again, police chose not to pursue out of concern for public safety.

As a result of these crimes, Bernd Adamek was arrested on March 22nd and held for bail on the following offences:

  • Fraud under $5000 – CC 380 (1)(b) – (5 Counts)
  • Failure to Comply with a Probation Order – CC 733.1(1) – (12 Counts)
  • Flight From Police Officer – CC 320.17 (2 Counts)
  • Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle – CC 320.13 (2 Counts)
